President's Desk (December 2019)
MPCA hosted the Test match between India and Bangladesh during the first fortnight of November 2019 at Indore. The series happened to be the second home series for Indian team under the newly introduced concept of 'World Test Championship' (WTC).
Speaking a bit about the WTC, the ICC introduced the concept w.e.f. 1st August 2019, aiming to provide a definite context to bilateral Test cricket. There are nine teams competing in the WTC across ( over a period of ) two years.
I am happy that the Indian team won the match magnificently to continue its winning streak and ensure maximum points (60) under the WTC ranking system. The match will surely be remembered for splendid innings by Mayank Agarwal (243) and the 14 wickets shared by pace trio – Ishant Sharma, Mohd. Shami and Umesh Yadav.
The Test also saw a considerable footfall during all three days of the game. Arrangements on part of MPCA were seamless and for this I must congratulate my colleagues, MPCA members, volunteers, and staff for their diligent work.
The BCCI's domestic season is now underway. Our boys' U/16 team has reached the knockout of the 'Vijay Merchant Trophy'. A heart rending 1-run loss to Hyderabad in the quarter-finals ended the journey of our team. I congratulate the players, support staff, and the selectors for the stellar performance.
Its also time to congratulate our young players – Vikrant Bhadoriya for his selection in the India U/19 boy's team (for the OD series against Afghanistan), and Salonee Dangore on her selection in the India A team for the U-23 Women's Challenger Trophy (T-20).
I take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to our Life Member Mr. Rajeev Risodkar, a former BCCI umpire, on being appointed as 'Umpire Educator' by the BCCI for the Level 2 umpires course conducted in Maldives.
I applaud the organising team of Gwalior Divisional Cricket Association for organising 36 league matches of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy at Gwalior. Even the knockout segment was hosted by MPCA at Indore with great efficiency.
In less than a month from now, MPCA is to host a T-20 International match between India and Sri Lanka. This would be the second T-20 under the auspices of MPCA after the 'Maiden' one played in December 2017, again between India and Sri Lanka.
Before concluding, I would like to extend warm personal regards and best wishes for the New Year ahead ! May the year 2020 bring in much better cricketing achievements for all of us in MP.
I look forward to each member's cooperation and active support to the Association and its office-bearers.
