'C T Sarwate Award for Lifetime Achievement': Ms. Sandhya Agrawal
Ms. Sandhya Agarwal is the most prominent female international cricketer emerging from the soil of Madhya Pradesh. In her career, spanning from 1984 to 1995, she represented India in 13 Tests and 21 ODI. It was the era when the number of international games for female cricketers was very nominal and therefore her span and the matches played truly reflect her consistency and dependability as a mainstay of the Indian side. In her third Test series – against England in England – Sandhya Agarwal displayed mesmerising skills to amass 359 runs from just 6 innings with 2 century performances. Her score of 190 in the third Test was the highest in women’s cricket for the opening slot since 1935 - and it continued till 2004. She also finds her name in the list of consecutive centurions in Tests – having scored 132 and 190 runs. She led the Indian Test side in one game against Australia in 1991. She continues to remain the only Indian batter to score more than 1000 runs in Test cricket, deservingly at 6th position in the global list. The Government of India, recognizing her enormous contribution to cricket, honoured her with the ‘Arjuna Award’ for the year 1986. After retiring from cricket, and till date, she continues to contribute to the game as a coach, besides being a National and State selectors for many years. Her achievements were recognised by the Marylebone Cricket Club by bestowing on her the Honorary Life Membership of MCC in the year 2017. MPCA is honoured to have such an illustrious personality and a legend of women’s cricket as a Life Member, and salutes her distinguished service to the game
'Madhavrao Scindia Award for Lifetime Achievement' : Mr. Sushil Doshi
Mr. Sushil Doshi is widely reckoned as the first established ball-to-ball cricket commentator in Hindi, besides being an author and a journalist. His stint as a commentator started way back in 1960’s and continues till date – even when he has crossed 75 years of age. His mellifluous voice, soothing tone, deep understanding of the game, fluency of expression, and the ability to extend spontaneous opinion soon made him a popular commentator who could actually recreate the field scenario for his listeners, along with earning respect from the players as well for being an impartial commentator. In the year 2016, the Government of India, recognizing his enormous contribution to sports, honoured him with the ‘Padma Shri’ - the fourth highest civilian honour of India. In a span of more than 50 years behind the mic, he has covered several World Cups, apart from innumerable Test – ODI – T20 games acting as a radio as well as a TV commentator, creating a huge rapport with his audience. MPCA is honoured to have such an illustrious personality as a Life Member. His enduring contribution to cricket has been very successful and our younger generation shall always look upto him as a role model.
